Dumas’ writing of characters and plot is utterly superb. Initially, I was apprehensive of how many characters Dumas included in this book, concerned at the difficult task of tying all of these loose ends together -and much to the skill of Dumas as a writer- they were.
Although I find his style personally to be a bit too detail-oriented, I cannot deny that his skill as an author earns this book its right to be considered a classic.

Epic. Better than The Three Musketeers for sure. The 2002 movie does not do it justice.
Beautiful, sad, long, at first a bit complicated when all the characters are introduced, but it has everything: love, loss, betrayal, lots and lots of revenge. Also poisonings, a lesbian couple, iligitimate kids, beautiful houses, a stingy banker, traveling in carriages and on horses.
Downsides; at times sexist. This is probably a consequence of the time it was written in, but still.
Glad I read this to finally know what it's about. The length was less of a downside than expected, because I felt it was quite readable.
