Sage Fowler has the ingredients to be your typical I-am-not-like-other-girls heroine, but she is not. She is brilliant, fierce and entirely smart. Yes, she’s stubborn and not the most ladylike, but she is kind and understanding and willingly to get her hands dirty to save her country, her friends, her love and the innocent. Her friendship with Clare is so pure and wholesome, they share trauma and so much loss that their bond cannot easily be broken. Also her friendship with Lani, making the trip so powerful and respected yet so girly and sweet. I simply love Lani, she is my favourite in the entire trilogy. Alex Quinn on the other hand, is by far the most romantic character I have yet to meet, his prideful, yes, but that is only in concern with her and keeping her happy and safe. But his love and affection towards her is never conditional or guarded, her loves her without abandon and it’s so sweet and admiral you can’t help but want them to have their happy ending. Despite the military and the war and the army and whatnot, I still genuinely enjoyed reading every inch of the book, like the entire series, it is fast paced, quick witted and to the point. Honestly, you can’t help but to appreciate a book that isn’t overtly tropey and expected. This is beyond the realm of your BookTok & Bookstagram rave and for valid reasons. It may not be the best, but it is much better than many of the promoted and influenced books I’ve seen and for that it is damn good. And dare I say it, I love that they get their fairytale happy ending!
Favourite quote: ““It is easier to forgive—though not forget—wrongs that have been done to ourselves, but it is much more difficult when done to our friends.””

...I finished this and it was...okay?

I LOVED the first book and I adored the sequel but this one really fell flat for me. The first 30% felt pointless and was pretty boring, then came the interesting part which was eventually ruined for me because I knew who the villain was the moment we meet this character. It was obvious this character was hiding something and I just couldn't enjoy it fully because I kept waiting for the rest of the characters to keep up and figure it out, but they didn't until the very end -.-
Despite it being predictable, the plot wasn't all that bad - there were some interesting scenes and I loved it when the MCs were separated because then they focused on the mission at hand instead of on each other. The whole "will they marry or not" situation got boring quite fast - I mean, we already spent the entire 2nd book waiting for it and instead of just getting rid of it at the beginning of this one, it had to drag throughout the whole book.
The ending was completely HEA and I was all into it, that was actually one of the only things that made me want to finish it. I just wanted these characters to be happy for once XD And I got what I wanted, I just wish it didn't take 384 pages of going through "I want to marry her but I can't because reasons"; "he doesn't want to marry me and I get it but also I don't" to get to it :/
