4.0 AVERAGE

If we're being honest, this was kind of a disappointing conclusion to one of my favorite recent trilogies. I mean, it was fine, but with two other books that totally swept me off my feet, I wanted this one to blow me away. Instead I spent 2/3 of the book frustrated with how meek Sage had become, writing angry notes on my Kindle to the author about her awful character regression. I saw the twist coming a mile away, but at least the last 1/3 to 1/4 of the book was more along the lines of what I wanted.

It was still good, don't get me wrong, but I expected better.

I really enjoyed this book even though it was full of politics and war strategy which is not my favorite topic. Alex and sage are so adorable but never communicate and are constantly separated which is very frustrating but their relationship is so cute anyway. I guess I was more entertained by the romance plot which is nothing new and just adored the other couples as well. I was frustrated at how often people were mad at sage and how easily she made people mad at her. Other than that, the book was very cute.

Sadly I was less impressed with this book that I was by the first two. I was so excited but then it just took me so long to get through. It was a good-ish ending like I liked it but it was kinda meh. There were parts that I really enjoyed a lot though so I had to still give it four stars. I probably won't re-read but I'm glad I read it.

I really enjoyed the finale this book delivers. I loved that this book had lots of powerful female characters that Sage was close with, quite a shift in tone from this character distancing herself from other women in the first book. Majority of the characters got happy endings that didn't feel too forced or convenient, and as always the action and political intrigue was suspenseful and interesting. My only complaint is that the first half dragged especially in comparison the very fast paced second book. Overall, I'd recommend the series and am excited to hear what my friend says as I will be passing my set of three along to her (:

This series has been an incredible ride. My babies, Sage and Alex, have been through so much. I just needed them to have a lovely ending! The question is, do they or don't they? I'll never tell!

However, I will say, I wanted to shake people in this story and hug them and laugh with them. There was a whole lot of plotting and treatying and reveals!

The writing was just as good as the other books! The world is one filled with political intrigue and about women standing up for themselves and most of all—love! Love for friends, love for your other half, and love for your country. A great conclusion to this series!
