An amazing survival story. Well-written and well-researched. Hillenbrand does an amazing job of drawing you into the narrative, recreating the atmosphere, and making you care for all of the participants. She recounts history without making it painfully dry, a trap many historical writers are unable to avoid. This is an absolutely amazing book and highly recommended.

One of the most amazing true stories I've ever read. I've read so much about WWII on the western front, but almost nothing about the Pacific theater. There was a whole dimension of the war I was missing. Beautifully written, the story of Louis Zamporini is a heartbreaking and life affirming saga showcasing both the worst and best of human beings. Words can't do it justice. I'm adding this to the list of my Top 10 Favorites of all time.

Really well written, thought provoking, and extremely heartbreaking. I would definitely recommend it, though the subject matter is definitely not light and it's definitely disturbing to read at times. I'm intrigued to read Hillenbrand's other book Seabiscuit now since this book has proven her storytelling abilities to be remarkable. Really great book and really atypical from my usual taste in books!

Incredible story with amazingly in-depth reporting. The story transported me back to Hampton Sides' incredible book Ghost Soldiers, about a rescue of POWs at the end of the war in the pacific. It's hard to believe men survived the conditions of these camps, but Louie's story was so over the top, it blows me away that he was so resilient after he returned home (even if it took a few years). War is such an abominable misery.

I learned a lot about the P.O.W and WW11. You can tell the author did a lot of research and read through so many accounts of what happened. It’s a hard book to read because of how sad and all the crazy things these guys had to go through.

Wow, just wow! An unbelievable story, meticulously researched. Louis Zamperini's story is like a movie only IT ALL REALLY HAPPENED! Can't give anything away, but you need a strong stomach to read a lot of this one...

Powerful, inspiring, makes what you're going through pale in comparison (and I am going through a lot so I know what I'm talking about...!)

Enjoy!
