Amazing...well written, engaging and inspiring from beginning to end

I'm maybe the only one in the world who didn't LOVE this book. The plot was incredible. Destined for a screenwriter's desk. But I just couldn't get into the character. Mad respect for Zamperini, just didn't get the writing.

I put off reading this book for so long because the movie adaptation stresses me out so bad, but this book is absolutely incredible! I am so glad that I read it. Louis Santorini miraculously survived so many life-threatening situations and understandably battled PTSD for many years. What the movie didn’t show was his battle with trauma-induced alcoholism and how rocky his marriage was until he turned his life over to Christ, finding the strength to forgive the men who tortured him.

This book exhibits how the Japanese treated their prisoners of war even worse than the Nazis did, lying to the Red Cross and taking its donations for themselves. After reading this book, the use of atomic bombs appears more necessary in ending the war (as horrific as it was). It’s interesting to me that the United States forgave Japanese war criminals in order to win over the Japanese government to become allies against the Soviets.

Having little knowledge of World War II POW experiences, I was simply amazed at this story of survival midst so much suffering, pain, and tragedy. The author's research of Louie's life from his upbringing to his final days retells a story of perseverance through such horrid circumstances and triumph through his relationship with Christ. One of the most interesting and best books I've ever read, I am looking forward to more books in this time period that recount World War II in such a personal way.

An amazing story about one mans experiences during WWII. It was so sad to listen to how the POW's were treated and the recovery they endured afterwards, if they were lucky enough to make it home.

Muuuuy heavy la historia real de Louie Zamperini, medio lento de leer pero aprendí mucho, amo que tenga fotos de la guerra (3.5)

Four stars is not meant as an insult - this is one of the better books I've read recently. I'm sure others will cover more thoroughly what makes it great; I will just say that I was riveted the whole way through.
emotional informative inspiring reflective sad tense medium-paced

The story is gripping, and the writing is characteristically excellent.

Fascinating - Although I did have to take a couple of breaks, due to the the intensity of some of the information. The author did an excellent job of portraying the complete character of Louis Zamperini both good and bad. It was inspiring to see what we can become and overcome.
