On my top 20 best books list. I'm totally in love with Louis... and Laura Hillenbrand was obviously the perfect author to tell his incredible story. READ!

I think this might be the best book I've ever read. Definitely recommend.

I wanted to read this book because I had read Seabiscuit by Hillenbrand and really enjoyed it. You will love this book if you love to read about interesting history revolving around a multifaceted character. I really loved reading about Zamperini's childhood and his experience at the 1936 Olympics. I had heard about his record surviving at sea, but I didn't realize that so much of the book would be about his experience as a POW in Japan. I learned so many things about the war in the Pacific that I had not known, and I have a new appreciate of war survivors from the Pacific. You should really read this book if you enjoyed the movie, and if you haven't seen the movie you should definitely read this book first. If your enjoy survivor stories, you will love this book.

This is really a much better book than I thought it would be. It was a book club choice and so I began reading it somewhat as a chore. I guess I feared it would be a 400 page testament to a super hero, which is sort of the flavor left by the movie trailer. However, it well written and an easy read, and free of patriotic histrionics.

Louis Zamperini was indeed quite a remarkable man. In the first chapters describing his youth, I felt drowning him would certainly be in order. However, he found direction which in one way or another and to one degree on another carried him through his war years. Ms. Hillenbrand describes his struggle with what we now call PTSD which nearly destroyed his lift.

Eventually faith brought him back to the world and, in which, he did much good.

All in all, I found it an interesting read. It is written in a 'just the facts' style that I appreciate in histories.

I don't give 5 stars to very many books, but this is one that deserves every one of them. Once I got started reading this book, I could hardly put it down. The story was completely compelling, and the author's writing draws you in to where you lose all track of time. I have so much respect for Laura Hillenbrand, especially after reading about her own personal struggles with her health. She hasn't even left her home in two years. What a gift she brings to the rest of us with her writing and her research.

I don't even know what to say about this, other than it's UNBELIEVABLE. Honestly one of the best books I've ever read in my life. Louie Zamperini is a complete inspiration, and thinking about his story brings tears to my eyes just writing this review. I wholeheartedly recommend that EVERYONE read this book.

What an amazing/horrifying story, how one human being could go through so much horror, torture, and brutality and come through the other side is beyond belief!
