Excellent book. I'm not usually a non-fiction reader but this kept my attention and was not boring like non-fiction can be.

I loved this book. I'm not going to say much about it because I think people are sick of me raving about it.

The writing is great, the research is almost unbelievable and the reading level feels like newspaper/magazine reading, so HS students could easily devour this biography.

I wish other biographers/memoir writers would take note from Hillenbrand that you don't have to be explicit and horrific to be accurate (yes I'm talking to you David Pelzer).

Amazing...

A little bit long and a little too quickly wrapped up.

The level of research, empathy, detail and compassion in the telling of Louis Zamperini’s story is unlike anything I’ve ever read as a biography.

This is a top 10 book for me. I adored the way Hillenbrand took the time to represent so many other POWs, soldiers and guards and their lived experiences too. This wasn’t just a memoir for a man, but a war, and the internal mental battle of survival despite bleakness and fear.

I read every word of the acknowledgements and the sheer feat of communication, resourcing and writing is a marvel in itself, never mind the way it was finally compiled to deliver this phenomenal story. There aren’t enough words.

One of the best books I’ve ever read. Truly amazing

I'm not one to go near a war book, but, man, this was riveting. The time at sea was the most fascinating part.

An important read, mostly because I did not know how much POWs in Japan suffered during WW2. The beginning was a little slow, but once I got into the story I really enjoyed it. Hillenbrand does exhaustive research to provide a fascinating read.
