Beginning is a little bit slow. Towards the end it really picks up. The author does a good job at creating disguising characters. Was a solid 2.5 until half-way.

Though I may be shamed for seeing the movie first, the film drove me to read the book--to my benefit. While the movie was wonderful, Heller's wriing takes you deeper in the mind of each character than the film could achieve. The obsession on both female characters' parts is mind-blowing. Not quite a thriller, not quite a romance, but the two combine in a chilling concoction.

I love unreliable narrators in literature. We are getting a really tense description of the plot through the eyes of Barbara, the main character of the book. The whole thing is very dark and sinister, and to top it all off we have a great set of characters.
