This book was a surprise. It's short, you could probably read it in one sitting, and if you have time I recommend it because you need to stay in the rhythm of quick changes that punctuate the narrative. I have to admit, I was a little put off at first by the second-person narration - a pet peeve of mine - but it also reinforces the immediacy and tension. There are many unanswered questions - and some that are answered - but it is less about the backlooking reveal than the move forward, adapt, step into a new role, move on, move on. I'm not sure I've ever read anything similar but would recommend it to fans of short stories, where the story as read is a window into a situation rather than a full explication.

As a traveler, the premise of this book is my worst nightmare—traveling alone and having my backpack stolen that contains all my money and documents and phone. Scares me more than any horror novel

I liked it but felt slightly unfulfilled by it. I also didn't love the 2nd person narration.

I loved this!  I was drawn in from the very first paragraph.  Written in the second person, and so wonderfully done it is almost a journey of its own.
Essentially a travel story of a woman who takes a holiday to escape a tragic part of her life and becomes entangled in a series of events almost immediately. Needing each time to work her own way out again.

Grade A creepy psychological thriller. A woman is traveling alone and all of her identification is lost in a country where she does not speak the language and now has to survive. It's not a gory survival story either--there's much more psychological damage from taking on enough different personas (including getting a job as a body double for a famous actress under an assumed name).

(On a side note--a very scary-in-a-good-way novel right before traveling abroad for a month!)
