It just didn’t suck me in. Everything just felt forced. I loved The Stand-In by this author, but this one was a miss for me.

A fun, closed door romance about a bi-racial diversity consultant and a fashion designer taking on a fashion company to expose corruption. I always love a Canadian novelist and I'm always looking for books like this featuring Canadians of colour! This is my least favorite of Chu's 3 novels. The first half was fun and unique but the second half really lagged, took too long and felt formulaic 🥴 and I just wanted to finish it. I don't mind predictability, but this was too generic for my taste. That being said, I'll keep reading anything she writes and loving this window into the experience that Canadians of Asian decent have in our country!
