Any time there is a Lily Chu book narrated by Phillipa Soo, I'm listening to it. I loved the pace of the relationship between Teddy and Dee, and especially loved the growth that each of them experienced in their personal lives. I always appreciate when the conflict in the book doesn't always equate to conflict in the romantic relationship--though the conflict in the relationship that arose was very real and was handled wonderfully. As a trivia nerd, I really enjoyed the meet-cute, and how both of them were all-in pretty much from the beginning.
If you loved The Stand-In and The Comeback, The Takedown will be right up your alley. If you've never listened to a Lily Chu book, what are you waiting for?

It's Ok, nothing I didn't expect for a sappy romance with a buttload of tropes. The work/corporate office scenarios and the fashion industry "takedowns" are so super unrealistic that it really soured the book. The racist granny who EVERYONE but Jade tolerates...IDK..

I want more of Lily Chu's books and SOON
I loved this author’s previous books and have had them both on rotation anytime i need a cute/familiar read. I didn’t like this one as much as the others but it was still entertaining.
The main character’s manifestation worldview was low-key annoying. It does get challenged and she does change by the end but i wish she’d figured out “just believing everything will work for me no matter what i do” isn’t a perfect life plan earlier in the book.
I also found myself questioning the plausibility of the workplace storyline. I just felt like there were several legal issues with how the characters handled the situation that would have landed them in hot water in real life.
I did really like the element of the couple meeting via a puzzle game. It was really cute. And having it set in the fashion world was a lot of fun. I wish she had delved in a bit more into that world like she did with Hollywood and Kpop though.
Overall, i enjoyed it but i probably won’t slot it into my reread pile.
