İnternetten satın aldığım ilk kitaptı Madam Bovary, iyi ki 2014 yılında değil de 2023 yılında okumuşum. 15 yaşındaki halimle anlayabileceğim ve içselleştirebileceğim bir kitap değilmiş. Belki 9 sene sonra tekrar okusam bambaşka çıkarımlarda bulunurum. Bazı kitaplar yaş aldıkça tekrar okunmalı, özellikle de klasikler.
È diventato uno dei miei libri preferiti per l’amore immenso che provo nei confronti del personaggio di Emma, una donna che non si fa bastare la realtà e volge continuamente gli occhi al mondo della fantasia e dei suoi libri, ma che deve fare i conti con il fatto che i sogni non bastano. Scritto in modo impeccabile.

A classic worth its reputation. My book group was split between those who were sympathetic to Emma and those who found her actions inexcusable. That she could be portrayed in either light without judgement by Flaubert is just one example of why this is an excellent novel.

I don't think this is a book about emma. I think it's more about the bourgeoisie seeing other people as tools for social climbing. I would almost say the pharmacist is the main character. He plays the game the best. Emma's character is inconsistent, vaccilating between hyper capable and hyper apathetic. It would work as a portrayal of depression but I don't know if that's what Flaubert thought. It may be that he saw the bourgeoisie as inherently purposeless.
