Blumwald is a town overshadowed by an ancient curse: in a sinister castle in the depths of the wild wood lives a monstrous Witch. Once a generation, she comes to claim a companion to return with her – never to be seen again. Now that time is drawing near once more.

I picked this one up on a whim and gosh was I surprised. I loved every page right from the very beginning. On the slower, yet lyrical side of writing, Dunn has crafted a beautiful compilation of childhood fairytales with a sapphic twist. The feeling of loneliness is strong in this one, and it is one of the main themes for bringing our two main characters together.

Bitterthorn is perfect for anyone who loves the old fairytales, spun a new way and beautiful writing. Kat Dunn is a new favourite!

It's cute. It's gay. It's gothic. What more do you want?

I had a harder time than I thought reading the story. It was really interesting but could’ve been so much more…
