I read this because it was the only book I had that fit a book challenge prompt and to be honest, not mad at it. Well at least not in the beginning. I was very intrigued with the way the book started and the way Lowen and Jeremy met.

This book made me feel so anxious, nervous, freaked out, and disgusted. This is my first "thriller" book so I had to get used to the eerie nature of it all. I was so freaked out, I had to finish it in day light.

But then was so disappointed at the ending. I was freaked out for no reason. It sort of felt rushed in a way. Like it was a cop out. I expected more. But to be clear I wasn't expecting it to end that way. It caught me off guard but it lacked oomf.

Honestly one of the worst books I’ve ever read but pure insanity and intrigue prevented me from DNF-ing this one. After the crazy, implausible cliffhanger twist at the end I wish I wouldn’t have wasted my time. The best way I can describe this book is uncomfortable. I wasn’t captivated by any of the storytelling, I felt no connection to the characters and I am honestly concerned a plot such as this was even constructed. 100% do not understand the hype around this book. Yes, there is spice but it’s very awkward and poorly written in my opinion. I get that this book is intended to be disturbing and graphic but it lacks sustenance and fell incredibly flat.

This book pissed me off. I started skimming it just because I wanted to know what happened, but not because it was a gripping thriller but because I was annoyed and just wanted it to be done. The insertions of Verity’s unpublished manuscript were the parts that I found most interesting (don’t know what that says about me as a person)
so once it was revealed that those parts were just a writing exercise and she wasn’t actually that horrible of a mother just made me mad and reduces all the stakes down to nothing.
I was interested in what was happening, hence the additional star, but it ultimately left me annoyed and angry.

My favorite Colleen Hoover book BY FAR!!! I think this style suits her sooooo much better than the romance novels I’ve read of hers. I flew through this book, and I was so immersed in it that I was actually starting to feel scared lol. I loved the transitions of what was going on in the house and switching to Verity’s manuscript. It was so dark, and I wanted to just keep reading and reading to see what other sick things Lowen would discover. I loved this twisted take on a thriller book. The ending truly left me questioning what was true and what wasn’t. A really good plot twist, even though I was sort of anticipating something to take a turn like that at the end. I just can’t emphasize enough though how much more enjoyable this book was for me compared to Ugly Love 😅 I’d love to see Colleen Hoover write more books in this style 🙏🏼

Psychological thriller/drama/erotica.
This book made me thoroughly enjoy being uncomfortable. There’s so many dark elements to it but the overall plot is fascinating and leaves you unsure what will happen at any given moment.
It’s one of those books where you’re not sure if you can trust hard facts and then proves you right at the end.
Lots of sex that’s written in an excruciatingly uncomfortable but somehow still sexy way.
It also falls into a weird category of I-don’t-like-the-main-character-but-I’m-still-routing-for-her, even though usually I can’t stand books like that.
Honestly, I think it’s my favourite Colleen Hoover book so far. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s better, but the horror undertones and overall uneasy plot appeals to the horror movie fan in me massively.
