If the aliens are so advance then how come it took an ordinary woman to figure out everything.

Usually I’m not a fan of books about aliens, but when I saw the cover of this book I fallen in love with it and decided to give the story a try. And what a good decision it was! Moreover I think I just discovered one of my favorite series.
After reading I have to say the cover is perfectly summarizes what happened in the book and it gives a pretty whole picture of the plot. I loved the little clues hidden on the cover.
Gini Koch’s writing style creates a funny and light atmosphere for the story and I laughed a lot during reading. So honestly for me just this little aspect sold the book because I love when I can laugh about a story. The main characters (talking about the main team, 6 or so character) are all absolutely amazing and deeply developed personalities no matter how much role they got in the plot. It’s easy to understand their decisions and actions; they aren’t overly complicated but not one dimensional either. Also it’s not hard to identify with any of them so during reading I pretty much felt like one of the bunch. The supportive characters however are bit bland and repetitive personalities. Practically every one of them falls into the same category: the unbelievable smart, incredible beautiful person which let’s be honest after a while gets infuriating a bit. Especially this little fact gets mentioned in every other chapter.
Kitty is a really strong a laid back character with a flavor to dramatics and flair. For me it’s a bit surprising how naturally and instinctively Kitty acts and reacts during the action scenes but her little quirks and solutions created a pretty entertaining and enjoyable storyline. She uses the most ordinary and everyday things, ideas to fight the bad guys creating the most ridiculous and funny situations. This leads to the biggest problem of the book. Usually it’s easy for me to get into the story and follow the thought process behind the plot, but this book is so much out of the realms of reality. Kitty behavior is pretty surreal if you think about it. She doesn’t flips out about anything and takes every obstacle seamlessly and without a hitch. Because if someone say to you that aliens are real and live among us that pretty much requires a reaction and not just an Ok. Well Kitty remains calm even after the revelation of a lot of monumental secret.
I read a lot of review about the book before reading it me and a lot of people criticized the way the characters uncovered the baddies hidden plans. They held a kind of debriefing sessions where they analyzed the whys and hows between them. At these parts of the story a lot of information is flaying around and sometimes it’s hard to follow. I on the other hand loved them. I think it’s quite funny and interesting how they get to the conclusion, making huge leaps out of nowhere. It makes the story unpredictable.
I really enjoyed this book and since the world got established and the characters introduced for the next book I expect it to be a bit more energetic and dynamic. This is a really hilarious and interesting story with the perfect balance of action and romance. If you like the lighter type of sci-fi and want to laugh then this is definitely your book.

I love that the main character is intelligent, a female, and ever so saucy. This is my.... fourth? Time re-reading this book and it just never gets old for me. Gini Koch is like author sister of Patricia Briggs and it brings me immense joy that they both have series that are huge. I love both of their work so much and yeah! I loved all the witty jokes, hot sex scenes, and all the characters. Badass moms for the win! Love it 😍
I found myself envying the alien creature she stabbed and killed in the first chapter. I wish it had been that easy for me to get out of the rest of this story.
I needed something light and stupid in between better reads and, well, I got the stupid part. Be careful what you wish for.
I read a lot of books that make you have to hang up your realistic outlooks on life and prepare yourself for some jumps in logic.......but this book was the absolute worst.
Female lead who is in marketing but magically knows everything about everything..... more so than the actual alien beings that have studied this stuff for forever and have technology beyond out means.
Men that trip over themselves to get close to said “sexy” marketing person.
Male lead who, of course, has some emotional powers that immediately connect him to her and cause him to go full alpha male beating on his Armani clad chest that she belongs to him......without ever actually asking her how she feels about it.
Secondary male who is used as a laughable attempt at a love triangle that fizzles to nothing more than a reason for the first male to throw out a ridiculous ultimatum.
Everyone in “Kitty’s” life is leading some sort of double agent existence. This author is beyond lazy and just throws random stuff in as she needs it......need knowledge of the government and guns? Surprise mom is a secret agent! Need an alien translator? Surprise! Dad works for NASA.....
I could basically go on and on and on about all the holes in this book. About how the word “fugly” is used about 87 times in one chapter. About how the action scenes were so poorly written you felt like you had somehow fallen into a middle school creative writing assignment....about how the science was non-existent. In fact, I’m not sure this author has ever taken a science class ever.....not even the basics.
Yep, that’s it. This author makes this book appear to be science-fiction when it would have been better sold as a story about magic. Since everyone magically always has everything they need with no explanation or reasoning.
Ugh....my head hurts. I can’t believe this is a series of books.

The beginning of the book was a whirlwind of events, and I had a hard time keeping up. It’s not every day you confront an alien and kill it with a pen, then get swept off your feet by a very charming and persist hunk named Martini. I probably got hung up on the fact that Martini is different from the male lead characters in the last couple books/series I’ve read. Martini is funny, open, and he knows what he wants: Kitty. For some reason, I had a hard time figuring out who was who of the people (or, should I say aliens?) that whisked Kitty off after she killed her first alien. I won’t lie, this is probably my own fault. But it took a while to sort it out.
There was so much that happened in this book in such a short amount of time, but it worked, and it never seemed to go too fast or too slow. It was just right, you might say. The amount of snark between the characters had me alternatively snorting and giggling out loud. Hopefully more of the latter than former. Kitty was surprisingly astute and smart – in some ways drawing on the lesson that often we see what we want to, until, or unless, someone with fresh eyes looks at it from a new and different angle. I wonder if perhaps there was some deeper meaning related to religion here, but frankly I was too entertained to really think much of it. Maybe I will later.
Since I read this on my Kindle, it’s still hard for me to judge, but I felt like the chapters were on the shorter side. I know that I have touched on this before – that short chapters usually drive me crazy – but Gini Koch made it work. Every time a chapter came to an end, an invisible force of action and snark propelled me forward. The only other issue I had was that, as much as I liked the ending, the last wrap-up chapter was unnecessary. Maybe necessary if it was the only book, but this is a series, and this book could have ended without the last chapter. I don’t even know why I’m making this an issue, but the ending was almost anti-climatic.
I am interested in what happens in the next books, though. I have a feeling Conspiracy Chuck will have to make an appearance…

I *loved* this. It was so creative, original, and just fun. Kitty has as a great sense of humor, and her sarcastic quips made all the tense situations 100% better. I seriously cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I would have liked to listen to it, but it seems it was never made into an audiobook, alas.
Also, kudos to the narrator of this audiobook, who really got into the snarky comments and the Kitty's attitude, and therefore made listening to this book a fun experience.
Also, if she doesn't want Christopher... I'll take him.
Edited to add: Counts as a science fiction book for my 2016 Popsugar Reading Challenge.

While the library considers this Sci-Fi, it has many components of fantasy and paranormal romance. Yes it has aliens and technology, but it is after all my bookshelf and I put it where I want to!
Koch writes a fun and witty story about governments, religion, aliens, love and power. What could possibly be wrong with that? If you are looking for a quick fun read with interesting characters, banter that exceeds expectations and a protag that is smarter than the average human, this is a good book for you. The secondary characters are so likable in this book, you cannot help but enjoy - Kitty's parents especially.

Look I understand that this isn’t Shakespeare or any other kind of high brow fiction.... but I loved every single second of reading this books and will 100% read the rest of them. I’m not sorry.
This book was fun. There was a lot info dumping and far more conversation to the point I wished something would happen instead. This is the first book in the series so I'm hoping the next books aren't this way. It did accomplish what I hoped which was a humorous alien book.
