This was a fun and quick read. I really enjoyed the plot, I always enjoy a story about people with magic that is unexpected. I hope they're able to find out more about Leck in the other books, because it does feel a little weird to not know more, but maybe that's the point, since in real life you just dont always get to know everything.
Graceling is an excellent YA book. It's not quite as good an adult book as The Hunger Games, but it's still an interesting read. A well developed, strong female lead character is always a welcome sight in a fantasy novel. The author also does an excellent job of sticking to the character she's created and remaining consistent throughout the book, fighting the urge to solve all her problems, fix all her flaws, or otherwise change her creation. The authors who are able to do that always create more realistic, believable characters.
So good ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

Great YA read! The romance was sweet. You knew what they were doing but there was no details given. The FMC was strong, and stubborn. The MMC didn’t want to dull her. Plot was good all the way through!
Although classified as a "young adult" books, the world that Kristin Cashore has created deal with much more adult themes. I love that the young women are strong enough to recognize their flaws and attempt to compensate for them as best they can without compromise. Graceling and the companion book, Fire, are compelling and highly entertaining books. I strongly recommend.

This was an overall fun read! I will say though, I had a hard time immersing myself fully into this story until I got to part 2. Part 1 was difficult for me to get into: I feel as though it was a little too fast paced for me? It felt jarring, and I didn't feel myself actually falling in love with nor connecting with any of the characters until we got to part 2. Part 2 slows down considerably, but not to a snail's pace; however it did give me a chance to further warm up to our main characters and get to know them a bit more. By about halfway through the book was when I found myself kicking my feet and cheering them on.
One other point that brought this rating down (spoilers ahead):I felt as though the death is King Leck was anti-climactic. Katsa and Po have this grand adventure revolving around trying to kill him, and the surprising climax of him showing up in Lienid? great build up! But then to die in a few sentences? I think I'm a little disappointed in the manner of his death, as well as how quickly it was written, almost like it was glossed over? I wish it had been more action-packed.
I will say one more thing: at times I felt as though the language took me out of the story. Don't get me wrong, Cashore does a great job of making you feel as though this is taking place in Ye Olden Times, but I got annoyed at Katsa and Po using the term "child" so often when they are basically still children themselves (I get that back then they would've been viewed as adults basically, but it still made it feel like they were trying to sound middle-aged old?).
Overall, I DID enjoy a majority of the book, and I'll continue with the rest of the series. It's certainly an intriguing world and I'm curious to see this story continue!

My main problem with this book: I WAS BORED. At no point did this book hook me in. I felt no attachment to the characters so I gave 0 fucks about what they were talking about. While staring at a page, the number of times names are mentioned was so frustrating. I swear half of this book was just the names of the characters over and over again.

This was such an entertaining book. The world Cashore created is fascinating and her characters are diverse.
It was not as atmospheric as it could have been, or with as much character development. But I’d say she’ll get a lot better. I’m looking forward to reading other books in the series.
I definitely recommend.
