Fantasy that I actually like! The idea of "graces" is very interesting, especially since those who are graced are set apart, but not necessarily in a good way. There's a lot that this book does right.
adventurous lighthearted medium-paced

The most wholesome fantasy book I've read this year. Love a strong female protagonist who softens when faced with love

Graceling is one of those stories that feels really simplistic but very addicting. The plot is straightforward, no really big surprises or anything, but that’s okay. Because the world is rich. Rich with dangers and the characters places within them feel real, how they interact with the world feels authentic. I think that’s what makes the story so addicting. You just want to see them interact more. The plot in itself was very fast, almost to the point where I stopped reading just to process everything that happened within the last three chapters. It certainly could be a standalone, but I think it fits well as a precursor to a very involved story about this world and its Gracelings. I’m a little eager to find out more about Gracelings and what other kinds there are. Some feel so mundane, but are used in unique ways. Some get stronger the more you practice and adopt new uses. Very exciting. Will continue to see what’s next in the Realm of Gracelings.

I remember this being a top book for me in middle school so I went back for a quick reread. I remember why I loved it - the main characters are fun and the world building is easy to understand. However, the writing felt a little flat this time around, as did the end.

YES. Another 5 star book. Just what I needed. YAY.
