I was drawn to this book after seeing the most recent Branagh adaptation (which was fantastic and spooky!), but found Hallowe'en Party to be one of Christie's weaker novels. It's obvious that this was written in 1969, because it feels like she's grappling with the explosion of sexually motivated, psychopathic killers (you know - those Bundy types) that were seemingly rampant in the 60s and 70s. In the end, I found the exploration of these issues really tiresome, a tad misogynist, and dare I say boring? It also made the reveal way too obvious. My love of Christie is still strong but this one was not my cuppa tea.

I listened to this because I saw it was the inspiration for A Haunting in Venice. Be warned this book is not set in Venice at all.
