A friend recommended it to me because I love the NYC fashion world trashy stories. It's a Hallmark/Lifetime movie in the making. Even the meta jokes regarding "All About Eve" weren't enough to sustain the unimaginative plot. An easy read for the snow day.
I. Loved. This. Book. I usually stick to the YA world but I was happy to pick this more “adult” book up in the discount section at Barnes and Noble. The plot is driven and fantastic and I found the humor well executed. Often, I find myself tripping over very dry writing in an attempt by the author for xyz book to be more adult. This read was truly enjoyable though from start to finish.
Imogen Tate is a relatable character and certainly packed a punch. I think it is becoming increasingly more prevalent to find a disconnect between the characters you’re reading about. They feel distant and cold rather than engaging. I think Sykes did an excellent job of combatting that. A large portion of my enjoyment of this book came with the perspective of reading a 2015 published novel in 2018. So much in tech and fashion has changed in just three short years, and I liked reading about things that were new and exciting in 2015 that are now everyday realities in the modern day.
During my week long book binge, The Knockoff has been my favorite by far. It was refreshing to read a book that had flare and spice while still having a down-to-earth quality about it. I hated Eve, loved Imogen and her sort of rag-tag team, and kept my fingers crossed for the ultimate success of Glossy mag. Overall, 4/5 stars, and would recommend to anyone seeking a light and fun page turner.

This was the perfect fashion forward book! Placed just a few months in the future, but on point with the styles and today's digital world. I may not be a mom like the main character, but I understood the technology struggles. I love reading about fashion every once in a while, so this was just what I needed.
The ending was succinct, and I would easily recommend this book to anyone who loved Shopaholic!

We Millennials are not all this abysmal. Eve's behavior is not a millennial problem, it's an entitled, privileged person problem and they come in all age ranges. I didn't hate it, but my god was she irritating.

I wanted to love this book, and I did like the main character, Imogen, and thought the plot lines about how technology and social media are changing the face of publishing (and who we are as well) were interesting. But... the nemesis in the book, Eve, is so unbelievable that it ruined it for me. Miranda Priestly was over-the-top in Devil Wears Prada but grounded in reality. Eve is not.

Great read if you're looking for something light. Takes a peek into the lives of the ultra-privileged in tech/media/magazines/fashion, and has some good character development, but it doesn't challenge the status quo too much.
Minor: Bullying, Cancer, Emotional abuse, Panic attacks/disorders, Gaslighting
I liked this way more than I expected to. Very fluffy. Very heavily and obviously drawing from All About Eve. Still fun.
