I don’t know if I’ll ever understand all that Stephen Hawking has discovered but I’ll always enjoy the wit he used when he explained it.

Why live in ignorance, when someone is trying to explain the universe in the simplest possible way? A brilliant attempt to describe the universe without making us feel the pain of its complexity. A must read for every human being on Earth.

Put this on the shelf next to Carl Sagan's "Cosmos". Not quite as wide-ranging, but every bit as enjoyable. The chapter on how black holes "evaporate" (albeit VERY slowly) made my little grey cells, as Poirot would put it, do gymnastics. The book has also been updated periodically with new material reflecting discoveries that took place since it was originally published, so it hasn't passed into genteel irrelevance.

The concepts were interesting and explained really well. I also think that he used very simple language to explain these theories which made the book very accessible.
However I did loose interest in the book a little bit somewhere in the second half when he started bringing up "God" quite frequently. To me that just felt really weird in a book about science.

I didn't understand a lot of this but I had a nice time. I wouldn't have hated it to be a little less brief to help flesh things out for my layperson brain
