DNF on page 93. I'm actually anti AI but the tone of this book still annoyed me. what's the point of writing a book that you only want your allies to read? It takes away from the credibility of presenting an objective take. It's unfortunate as valid concerns exist and we need to get more people on board with that.

A very good, interesting, and thought provoking reflecting on the AI hype. Renaming these technologies to synthetic media machines or text extruding machines, the authors outline a compelling argument for why "AI" is rather impossible, who profits from the hype, and how to resist it.
Like many popular academic books in the field, this is firmly rooted in a US context and some sections and examples are thus less relevant or insightful for readers not familiar with the US legislative and cultural context.
The bigger picture was rather les  elaborated on, and the final action/resistance chapter felt too shallow.
For readers with background understanding of the topic, some examples may be repetitive or already known, but the book also afford  many deep insights for (academic) readers familiar with the topic.

A must read for all of us living in these times of AI hype. Incredibly readable and sobering account of the risks and hype of AI.

Enlightening! I was already an AI hater but now I feel more justified and better equipped to tell other people why I’m a hater
