I honestly thought this was fantastic. It is a little silly and irreverent in places - I don’t think this means it should automatically be YA, but I do think if you are in the mood for something more solemn, you should save this for a day when you need to smile.
As a white woman, this was a wonderful chance to not only see a new world, but see it through entirely new eyes. I would definitely recommend it to others.

DNF @ 25% - this is an adult book? 🥴 I don’t think so. The protagonist is very immature. Basically a 100 year old teenager with a temper who calls everyone she dislikes a bitch.

Once I got used to Jing's personality, she was actually entertaining to follow.

The story was absolutely buck-wild from start to finish, but it was delightful. Plus, I love how Western vampire lore is woven into the Chinese mythology. It was a fun mix and relevant to the "human" Shanghai that gets visited.

It's definitely worth a read if you want something fast and exciting.

DNF @ 32%.

FMC is around 90 years old and has reached the age of maturity, but she acts like a petulant teenager. She constantly acts the victim and nothing is ever her fault.

The writing left MUCH to be desired and did not feel like an adult book at all. I could not connect with it whatsoever.
