Very funny for most of it - but that's are definitely cringey parts and I need to remember that it was written in 2011. Lots has changed since then!

Fatphobia in the first essay, which put me off the whole book.

I read this book because StoryGraph told me my selections had been too heavy lately. I like Mindy! There are a lot of funny jokes and cute moments in here. But this book was so consistently fatphobic that it was really hard for me to enjoy the parts that weren't about her relationship with dieting, exercise, and body image. She also used a slur for transgender people, probably thinking it was endearing... not great. This book was published over a decade ago. I can't imagine having my own comedic musings published to exist in the public eye for eternity. Like anyone, she totally deserves the space to evolve, and no doubt, she has (since I haven't heard anything about her actually being a terrible person). I hope she has a healthier relationship with food and her body now, too.

I really struggled through this book - there is some funny parts but it is overall very disappointing with a lot of problematic moments.

There were enough big differences between the audiobook and the printed book that reading both at the same time was kind of difficult. Wasn't expecting that! Still, this book is exactly what you'd want a book from Mindy Kaling to be, funny stories of how she got to where she is, chock full of gossipy relatable anecdotes and lists.

Also, is she psychic? In one section she talks about movies she'd like to recreate. This was written in 2011, and in the year of our Lord 2022 look at all that has come to pass:

- A League of Their Own (check)
- The Hulk (She Hulk is airing right now, so check)
- Oceans 11 but call it Oceans 5 (she was IN Oceans 8 so double check)
- Ghostbusters with four girls (even though she thought it would never happen with women, so check again)

This is maybe my 5th funny lady memoir, and my second from an Office cast member. I feel like I'm beginning to collect them all like pokemon lol

I adore Mindy. She is a relatable queen. Everything she said I’ve either thought before, heard before, or wish I had experienced. She’s super funny, charming, and a great writer. I liked this book so much I’ll probably read it again sometime.

Didn’t want to hear about weight/fat slurs—maybe she addresses this later on, but since I’m struggling with body dysmorphia, I decided I didn’t want to push through.
