This sits somewhere around a 3.5 . I really Couldn't really connect to the characters like I did in The Ritual. Character motivations seemed hollow and really just meant to drive the spice/smut as opposed to the plot behind it.

Too much trauma for me, and the spice was not the spice that I enjoy reading about either. Loved the ritual, but this was too much

wow

I just feel like Shantel did Ellie DIRTY in this book. I fully expected the darkness of it but wow…. Her dad “commits suicide” and she finds him only for him to not actually be dead… to make her addicted to drugs… to make her groomed and raped by her mothers new husbands and one of them wants to impregnate her *and her mother knew and didn’t do anything*… but also not only them but when she’s tied up by them other guys using her without her knowledge????? I just feel like she didn’t need ALL of that. She has a spark in her to be a bad bitch you can tell, but she wasn’t written like that almost at all. Oh and of course the people who try to kill her… I love Sins devotion to her and the spicy scenes are definitely unique I just struggled to get past everything done to Ellie and her helplessness by the end.

Well that was a lot. Don’t get be wrong it was great! I knew going into this one that it was going to be pretty intense compared to The Ritual. It definitely met my expectations that’s for sure. I don’t recommend it to someone that gets triggered by SA because it deals with it a lot in this book. At one point I almost DNF’d it not once but twice, but I powered through because I wanted to see how it ended. I had to take a mental break from it at one point. I gave this book 5 stars because it definitely took a toll on my emotions. And that’s what I like in a book. I cried at one point, then wanted to throw something at a wall the next. On that note, The Sacrifice here I come!

The Darkest

This rating is based on the topics touched on this story. The way it was written was fast paced and captivating. This book is darker than I normally like but I don’t like to skip books in series. It touches a lot of triggering topics and talks about them very openly.

I did enjoy the way the MMC was burning the world in his love’s path. I would’ve liked to see a bit more kick in the FMCs attitude towards the world but I understand that when so much has happened to you, you might just want to give up at one point.

Overall, I would’ve liked for the MMC to be more gentle with the FMC as I felt like she was going to snap at any point. I would’ve also liked for her to have gotten more emotional help.

The spice was very rough and not in an extremely sexy way in my opinion. And there wasn’t a lot of torture of the villains, I would’ve liked to see them suffer a bit more.

Phew. This made The Ritual look like sunshine and rainbows. Def the darkest romance I’ve read. Did I enjoy it?
