I watched the movie first since I couldn't wait any longer for the book to return to my library. But I'm glad I did! They took liberties and changed many things for the movie. But it made it more suspenseful and interesting. The book is just as amazing but it's more science! But it's fun science because Weir gave Watney a great sense of humor. The book feels real. Almost as if Mars really could be nine months away and we could send people there.

Something else I noticed. In the movie, I didn't really get a sense of time. It seemed it could all happen within several months. The book gives a better feeling of just how long Watney was on Mars and the issues he faced.

My only complaint: too much language for my tastes.

But I still think it's worth reading at least once!

Now on to Mars by Ben Bova! I'm curious about how folks in the late 80s and early 90s viewed the red planet.

This would have been better if I hadn’t already seen the movie, so for the sake of fairness, I’ve rounded up my rating.
