Yay science! Yay space! Yay potatoes! I’ve seen and enjoyed the movie, so this didn’t have the same suspense it might’ve had for readers in 2014, but I still loved it. It was surprisingly funny, and Watney is a really great character to root for. I do think this one works better as a movie (gasp, blasphemy!) because the finer details of what he’s doing each day are a little more monotonous in writing. I also would have enjoyed more chapters from the perspective of the crew/NASA/JPL, which I think we got in the movie version. Overall a solid story that kept me entertained despite my lack of knowledge about much of the subject matter.

What a fun read. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the book. What else was going to go wrong?
