Not a sci-fi fan, but this was outstanding. I read it very fast because I was so invested in Mark and every hurdle he had to jump to stay alive. His humor was just as life saving as were his bontany and engineering skills. An incredible read for a laymen on space & other science.

i love the film so i knew i was going to love the book and yeah. it was really good!!!!!!! better than the movie for sure

it hooks you in right away and then you're just SO invested; when things go wrong you're devastated and when they go right you sigh with relief and the main character is so funny and sharp and clever and the way that he explains things makes what would be kind of dull science stuff seem interesting and clear. in fact the science in this book seems so realistic and reasonable that i did actually forget that mankind have not been to mars already😭

and of course we see so much of mark so we get to know him really well, but even all of the supporting cast feel well fleshed-out and likeable. venkat kapoor and mindy park my beloveds 🫶

and of course this made me cry more than once... it's just about the indomitability and perseverance of the human spirit and it's about community and teamwork and about leaving no man behind and it's about HOPE............ it got me, okay? and it will get me every time

I think i got spoiled with PHM…. The Martian was good but didn’t have the same effects. But kudos to Mars’ potato farmer! 🧑🏽‍🌾 🥔

It was super fun. Idk how Matt Damon plays him (I’ve never seen the movie), but in the book Mark is the sweetest, dorkiest, played-dnd-in-high-school nerd and so much fun. I love him.

It was definitely the most sciency sci-fi story I’ve ever read. Mark knows a lot of facts and is very eager to share how to combine hydrogen and oxygen, and help bacteria reproduce in soil, operate an airlock, and so much else. I definitely learned some stuff, which was super cool. Apparently the science is completely accurate, too!

It’s super funny and heartwarming, but also pretty tense sometimes. I had to put it down occasionally because I got so stressed for poor Mark. Loved it.

Prob woulda liked it more if I read it instead of listening to the audiobook. Wil Wheatons inflection on words was cringe at times, but I still enjoyed the book despite that.

This had me hooked from the very beginning! Hugely entertaining, the sci-fi/thriller combo works very well. Does the science add up? No idea. Does it matter? Also, no. Terrific!
