I hated the main character and stopped reading when he witnessed his friend being raped and did nothing to stop it.

"For you, a thousand times over."
cue my ugly crying

My heart broke like seven times as a Middle Eastern, a Muslim, a teenager, and just a human every other page. Amir was so human and it made it impossible to go easy on my emotions and just hate him. I can't! He's not a bad person - he's not a good person either. He's simply human. And another pain to my heart was Hassan; he's too kind, too loyal, beyond to a fault. I want to kiss his head softly a thousand times.

And then Sohrab. Oh. Oh.

Recommend this book endlessly. It's important, real, and heartfelt.
I wondered if that was how forgiveness budded, not with the fanfare of epiphany, but with pain gathering its things, packing up, and slipping away unannounced in the middle of the night.
