Kinda wattpad-y at some points and some characters & characterisations remind me so much of Heroes of Olympus that I wouldn't be surprised if this was originally riordanverse fanfic/ the author is a fan.
All in all, very gripping once past the first 50 pages -> I binged this. I love the characters so much + the exploration of how historical institutions are hostile to POC (esp in USA) stood out to me.
Had some flaws (
Sel's monologue at Nick's dad's house just felt like infodumping
+ so many characters they're hard to remember + sometimes the writing just felt clunky) but I greatly enjoyed it so 5 stars it is.

I’ve seen A LOT of great reviews about this book and because of that I chose not to read it immediately. But I couldn’t control myself any longer, so I finally read it, and what better month to read it then Black History Month!!

This book was everythingggg. I don’t read a lot of fantasy because I always find it difficult to follow through with the descriptions and plot, but I just HAD to read this (though I think I might still be confused about some characters and their roles). I loved the fact that it contained the topic of black history, dealing with grief, and Arthurian lore. Exciting! Can’t wait to read book 2

I love Nick and Bree, but I must say the chemistry between Sel and Bree is OFF THE CHARTS! I was literally blushing with every encounter they had. I don’t know what romance ship I’m on, but I’m leaning towards Sel and Bree🤭

I really loved thus book by the end. At first there was a lot of world building and mystery to get through for a low-fantasy but it was so worth it. Bree was an excellent and relatable main lead but also was able to explore deep and hard topics like grief and generational trauma in a way that really worked. There was an expansive cast of characters but so many of them were fun and interesting without stealing too much spotlight from the main characters.
