I love how this book is silly--even sillier than its predecessors (acting out the book, quoting Hamlet, weird chapter numbers, "stoopid"), and yet things get more serious and Alcatraz is even more reflective. More of the magic system is revealed, our assumptions are flipped on their heads, and everything is set up nicely for the final book. Laugh out loud funny!

The narrator ruined this book. It was unsufferable, annoying and ruined the storytelling that would have been pretty good without it.

Definitely better than the previous one, now my second favorite after book 2!

5 stars for this line:

“So which religion is the best? Well, it depends. In my cultivated opinion, I’d suggest Judaism. But that’s because I prefer the path of yeast resistance.”

Am I too easily entertained by bad puns? Possibly.
Also there is a quote from The Princess Bride.

This was a fun addition to the series, but was very much a "middle book." I still enjoyed Alcatraz's wit and turn of phrase, but the story felt less comfortable and more forced. Loved the ending, though.

Brilliant. Hilarious. Fun.

Not much else to say…
