I really enjoy this series! Female narrator having her own agency + grown-up Alice in Wonderland vibe, though I suppose it technically could be a children's/YA book. It doesn't feel like it's written down to any level though, if that makes sense.

I believe that this just may be my favorite Fairyland book. Oh September!! I love how these stories are written. I keep finding inspirational quotes and passages that mean much more than the nouns, verbs and adjectives that were simply strung together. I started marking and annotating them, but it was taking from the sheer enjoyment of reading the stories and falling beneath fairyland myself.

I can't even. This is perfect. It's lovely and unsettling, and it reminded me of the way I felt about the world when I was a little girl: that dangerous, thrilling things lurked in the dark, and thinking slantwise is the only way to get there and back. This is the kind of story that makes me so terribly glad I've dedicated my life to books.

In this book, September returns to Fairyland... but everything's all wrong somehow. I'd forgotten quite a bit of this one, actually. I'm surprised by how much. Still enjoyable and charming.

Not as good as the first book but still a fun, delightful read. I love Valente's way with words and her twisty-turny slantwise way of explaining and describing things is a joy to read. I loved the first book. It was amazing. This book doesn't reach the same level but is still well worth the time.

A book that I wish I could go back in time and give to myself as a child and one that I will share with my children.

I shouldn't have been working so hard when reading this - something about my frazzled nerves could have made Valente's writing rather hard to stomach this time round. The premise of the story is great - September travels to the underworld of Fairyland/our world, and meets
Spoilershadows of her dearest friends and not-so-dear enemies
, growing up and gaining courage in the process. But there were just too many quirky character crowding the narrative for me - appearing in one chapter only to disappear shortly after - and I still can't decide if the point on
Spoilershadows
was too blunt or if the characters were just meant to be that way, only I wasn't quite in the mood for them.
