It's very fast paced and could have been perfect with a few more pages to flesh the story out. I really wished we could have seen a lot more of Aimée's time at school and also have more details of the wonderland, but I honestly loved the original twist on Alice in Wonderland so much that I still think it was an amazing graphic novel.

I really enjoyed this. The ending was a bit abrupt and felt cut short, but this was a pretty solid book for middle grade readers. The format of this reminded me a bit of the Remixed Classics series... using the framework of a story that a lot of young readers are likely to have encountered, if only in Disney form, and blending in Anishinaabe symbolism and phrasing.

There were places where the story shifted tracks abruptly, or followed events from the Alice in Wonderland plot it borrows from in ways that don't make full sense in the story. Then again, that's kind of how AiW works. I liked what this story had to say, and how the creators recast the Queen of Hearts as the embodiment of settler colonialism.

Happily read this for the trans rights readathon 2024, and would definitely recommend. I also suspect that younger readers will be less skeptical of the structure and consistency than I am. ;)

A fun and imaginative retelling of “Alice In Wonderland”!! I liked the casual incorporation of Anishinaabe culture and language, from the occasional Anishinaabemowin word in dialogue, to all the classic Alice In Wonderland characters being remodeled after the folklore! (Well. With the exception of the Queen Of Hearts. She was based on colonizers)

And Aimée was great nonbinary rep! Unfortunately, they don’t get accepted by most of their classmates, but even though that’s shown, the story doesn’t make you personally relive that transphobia. It’s only acknowledged. Above all, the narrative affirms Aimée’s Indigenous and nonbinary identities.

I just wish we could’ve had a little time in-between chapters! There were times where the pacing was so quick I flipped back a page to see if there was anything I missed. I also just wanted to spend more time with Aimée and the rest of the cast lol

Aimée, is in middle school and on a field trip gets lost and stumbles upon an Alice in Wonderland inspired world that is mashed up with Indigenous Anishinaabe culture and storytelling. Aimée has to come to terms with who they are, the world around them and work with their Indigenous roots to try to overcome the lies, scheming and theft of the Queen of Hearts who is inspired by white colonialism. The graphics are awesome and I would love an entire series about Aimée because they are awesome and seeing them connect with themselves was great an I could totally see a series. Please, Please, Please Manifesting this !!
