To cage a god is divine. To be divine is to rule. To rule is to destroy. 3.5

The dialogue in this is awful, it lacks any depth, and the world building is almost non-existent. I really wanted to like this book but I couldn’t recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy because there are so many better books out there.

I didn't like the characters, the pacing felt rushed, all of the names are difficult to pronounce because they're Russian but they're not Russian and it's conflicting and annoying.

“Let my face be the last thing you ever see. I will burn myself into your memory.”
Well that was wonderful and beautiful and amazing. Illumicrate books do not miss what can I say!
The writing in this book was gorgeous and the storytelling was to die for. It took me a minute to get used to the name variations and language in this book but it honestly made for such a fun experience.
This books was also so quotable and I think again that has to do with the writing but I wanted to write down everything as a quote for my review. Top contenders:
“My morality begins and ends with you”
“I’d rather spend an eternity hoping we cross paths again than resign myself to a single moment without you. I’ll always belong to you, until my last breath. In this life and the next”
“You can wrap me in silks and rest your head on my shoulder. But you can’t erase the memory of everything you’ve done. A silk dress doesn’t lessen the weight of your foot on my spine.”
“I can’t promise you a future with me, but I can offer you this breath. And the next. And all those that follow, for as long as you take them.”
My only complaint is that the climax of the story didn’t last very long, I think it was like 2 pages but it deserved to be more brutal than it was.
Please everyone should read this book is was a wonderful mix of fantasy and romance (in my humble non-romance opinion, there wasn’t so much that it icked me) and the world would be a better place if we all read this book. Okay thanks bye

This one took a while to get into. It was a fast and easy read. It just wasn’t compelling enough to hold my attention throughout. The characters were ok but too immature for my liking, they made some questionable choices. The writing was ok. But the plot was a little on the boring side. The romance was ok but the miscommunication trope is not one of my favourites. It does seem like it’s clique after clique. I’m sad because I thought I would love this but you can’t love them all.
this book was painful for me to finish, none of the characters felt developed, the events of the plot seemed to have just fallen into the characters laps without any build up or logical reasoning, and the dialogue/inner thoughts had me absolutely cringing at points.
there was very little tension, and it seemed like whenever an event might be pressing one of the two couples (4 of the 5 POVs) would instead have a corny fade to black sex scene and the current problem would become a future worry.
the author also threw a lot of their made up language in which would work if it was here and there, or if it was at least easily inferred, but instead there is a 3 page language key to help you learn to say "coat" or any variety of botanical.
