I almost didn’t finish this. I don’t know if I’m glad I did or not. I don’t think I fully ~get~ it (even with the end note). Parts of it were enjoyable. Urethra had me actually laugh. And parts of it made me feel something for the characters. I just don’t feel like I actually got anything out of it.
Graphic: Animal death, Drug use, Incest, Sexual content, Murder

I do not DNF books, but I could imaging a version of myself prematurely ending my reading of this title if I had not been a fan of [a:Chuck Palahniuk|2546|Chuck Palahniuk|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1391203076p2/2546.jpg]'s in the past, knowing the sort of writer he is and anticipating some payoff.
The 1st 100 pages of [b:Not Forever, But For Now|101145468|Not Forever, But For Now|Chuck Palahniuk|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1687711848l/101145468._SY75_.jpg|124545725] could have easily been reduced to one third of its size without any loss of to the overall plot, while making it much more palatable. Mr Palahniuk went overboard in describing the sexual and moral depravities of the main characters, as well as how they would corrupt the household and small nearby town with their antics. In fact, I think that the book could have begun at the point where the tutor was introduced with no loss with what the author was trying to carry out.
That indelible mark aside - meet Otto and Cecil, scions to the family business of celebrity population control. If you can name any celebrity who was offed with any sniff of suspicious over the past 60 years, it is very likely that it was clandestinely done for the greater good by a member of the Seaton family. The ages of Otto and Cecil are purposefully obscurred at certain points of the book, but eventually Otto (the eldest) is called to take up the mantle in the family business.
As always, there are a number of plot points from Palahniuk that I found interesting:
-the ongoing conversation between faux Judy Garland and Grandfather
-the notion that human bodies were being repurposed for soaking up toxic forever chemicals from the environment, only to be interred in hermetically sealed coffins to keep the toxins from re-entering the food chain
-Tyger
-the biological mechanism behind the ghost forest
This is definetly not a read for the uninitiated in Palahniuk's works. He is capable of doing gross, but intriguing with a great payoff (see [b:Snuff|1840511|Snuff|Chuck Palahniuk|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1446089918l/1840511._SX50_.jpg|2034926]) but walking away from the final fesult of Not Forever But For Now , I just feel 'gross'.
