Wow. Wow wow wow. Nothing I say will do this book justice. Brilliant book, delightfully repulsive book, I loved it so much. I typically read Palahniuk’s work at least twice (I’ve read Fight Club alone something like twenty times) — once blind, and once to gain a deeper understanding once I’ve got my head wrapped around the heart of it. I can’t wait to read this one again, especially after reading the author’s note at the end. The outrageous parts had me cackling, snort-laughing, and grinning. My heart grew three sizes with the Vonnegut reference toward the end (Billy Pilgrim…oh, I won’t spoil it), and the whole thing sort of reminded me of Vonnegut’s Slapstick, and also a smidgen of We Have Always Lived in the Castle, but of course, like all of Chuck’s work, it was unmistakably him — unique, hysterical, clever, layered, and, again, delightfully repulsive. He is the master of well-chosen, extremely effective repetition of words/phrases (something I use in my own writing instinctively because I’ve been reading him for ~20 years now). I’m so sad that I’m missing this book tour (no longer living in SLC/Pittsburgh is the closest one to Buffalo and it sold out) ***EDIT: Got in on the wait list!!!*** because this is a very special, very twisted book and his Beautiful You tour was unforgettable. I feel like a lot of people won’t enjoy this like I did, but that sort of just makes me like it even more. I’m overwhelmed by that feeling of satisfaction that can only come from reading an expertly-written book — a swelling in my chest, like it’s the first time I’ve really breathed in awhile. I think I’ll leave it at that. Thank you, Chuck Palahniuk.

*editing to add: I think the people this book is meant for are the only people who will be able to stomach it. I have a theory that this was no accident.

Palahniuk has perhaps penned his most vile and depraved story to date here. Recommend starting with the 'About the Author' page in the back before you start reading. The tale is reprehensible and repulsive but ultimately I could barely put it down.

Typical Palahniuk, intensely weird to start. Then drives home an important message.

Not Forever, But For Now is last call at a buffet.

DNF @ 35%

The most offensive thing about this book is how utterly dull it is.

plot was intriguing, but the rampant incest+pedophilia was unreadable. I love most palahniuk books and I understand he likes the risque topics, but I couldn't stomach this one
