I greatly enjoyed a lot of this book, however I do feel as though it could’ve been shorter. Many chapters did feel like a lot of the same, which - due the lack of an evident overall plot until the last act - did start to feel monotonous at about halfway.
Chuck’s prose and humour were enjoyable and I will definitely continue to read more of his work.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Toxic relationship, Blood, Classism
Minor: Gore, Gun violence, Sexual violence, Murder, Sexual harassment, Injury/Injury detail
For being such a short book you’d think it would contain something good but alas. Between the incest, body disposal, and lack of structure this would be a firm do not read.

A week later and this book is still with me. The ugliness is only temporary if we can overcome it. Things can typically be worse and sometimes weakness cannot be overcome. Otto and Cecil are two characters that in a way speak to who a person is and how they are seen. Otto's depiction was vivid. Cecil begs the reader to like him despite his flaws, however I'm unsure if Cecil can relate to him as much as he tries. Otto's touch exterior isn't going to save him from being a joey.
wickedly deranged eccentrics making up their own story. you either love Palahniuk or you don't. I do.
I really enjoyed the insight from Palahniuk at the end. I'm glad he had this outlet to hopefully help ease that devastatingly heavy knowledge given to him

I found this book so incredibly hard to finish. I don't think I'll be recommending it to anyone. Maybe I'll like his next book better?
Not his best, but it certainly has the most sibling sex!

I think I need a reread. I swallowed the first 20% of the book due to its sour, putrescent taste (incest between brothers, dysfunctional family dynamics, constant 'having a go' and 'having it off') but enjoyed the language (the book's set in Wales, with many old British words/slang words added to the mix) and ideas of the other 80%. Read 'About the Author' section at the end of the book before starting it. The main idea turns out to be deeper than its wrapper, intended to shock a reader. The ending's swift, unexpected and crosses out the believability of the whole book.
