I enjoyed the idea of this book quite a bit, but thought that the delivery was heavy handed - too many things that didn't need spelling out, were.

Pfiou, je ne sais même pas quoi dire...
C'était une lecture hyper particulière, très originale et il n'y a pas deux romans comme celui-ci! J'ai l'impression d'avoir assisté à une divagation, tout est flou, lointain et complexe. C'est assez perturbant mais qu'est-ce que c'était bien!!
Je ne connaissais pas l'auteur. J'étais tombée sur internet sur [b:La Théorie des cordes|4112962|La Théorie des cordes|José Carlos Somoza|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1334321539l/4112962._SY75_.jpg|69434] dont la couverture et le titre m'avait interpellée. On me proposait en dessous "La caverne des idées" et j'ai direct accroché avec la couverture. En lisant "Hercule Poirot dans la Grèce Antique" j'ai direct ajouté à ma wishlist et je pense qu'il n'est pas nécessaire d'en savoir plus! En recevant le livre j'ai découvert quelque chose qui rendait le roman déjà très original et je me suis rendu compte que c'était indiqué dans le résumé, et même si c'est looooin d'être LE point original je pense que c’est quand même intéressant de le découvrir par soi-même.
La forme du roman est super originale et m'avait pas mal interpellée mais IMPOSSIBLE de comprendre où le roman nous emmène!
Jusqu'à la dernière ligne on ne comprend pas comment toutes les pièces du puzzle s'emboîtent et ce qui est fort c'est qu'on a quand même l'impression de comprendre le récit 'principal' et qu'il n'y a peut-être même pas de puzzle dans lequel les pièces doivent s'emboîter.
Pendant le roman on a vraiment l'impression d'être en Grèce Antique, avec toutes les doctrines philosophiques et politiques, les vêtements, le vocabulaire, le paysage etc. C'est un vrai plaisir à lire pour celles et ceux qui aiment tout cet ancien monde!
Bref, super chouette découverte, je vais lire "La théorie des cordes" après la claque qu'à été celui-ci.

Worth reading as it's written in an interestingly different way. I really want to give it 3.5 stars as I didn't quite really like it but I liked it a wee bit more than just three.

Read for school. This is such a strange but absolutely fun book. I'm quite disappointed that eidesis is not a real literary technique, but I'd probably get obsessed, just like the translator, if it was real. It's interesting because the violent and repeated images of the eidesis left uneasy impressions on my mind, like the afterimages after seeing bright colors. The text bleeding into the translator's life (and its implications) made me more and more uneasy as well. I read this in broad daylight in the afternoon and I actually felt disturbed/perturbed. I loved it.
The more I read, the more the features of the text really messed with me. I felt almost like the translator, like I was being called out: the sudden switch to second person so that I felt like I was directly addressed, the translator's life being messed with (messing with reader expectations the translator is untouchable), the translator's conversations that so closely mirror conversations I have with fellow lit students and the insistent and forceful message of the text -- reading in an academic/critic's way is pointless and unfulfilling coz you're just stuck in a cave and you don't even know you're in the cave. The upshot of it was that I felt like the whole point of my studying literature was being interrogated and found wanting, and I felt like the author dragged me along for the ride along with the translator (who is honestly a great stand-in for the literary reader, I felt like I was walking in his shoes). This is such a unique experience. Really enjoyed it.
