“His expression became both very tender and very amused, as if there were an excellent inside joke between us, and he tilted his head to the right and looked at me with a focused kind of sweetness and warmth.”
Romantic Comedy brought a wide array of emotions! By the end it felt like a relationship that I had personally lived through, or a story being told by a close friend. The story follows comedy writer Sally Milz, who writes for a fictional version of SNL. Noah Brewster is a famous musician who appears as the guest host and their chemistry is confusing for Sally. Sally believes that in her world, famous females fall for the comedy writer but not the other way around. Fast forward two years, and a global pandemic - Sally and Noah are exchanging emails and falling for one another, but in order to do so she'll have to believe that it can happen to her.
The Good:
The writing! This romance has very few of the traditional tropes; it reads more as a contemporary fiction. The conversations are realistic and the relationships feel real!
The Bad:
Throughout the book I could never be sure if I liked Sally. She is a powerful female with an amazing career, yet doesn't have any confidence in herself or what Noah might see in her. There are aspects of this that are realistic, which is how she read by Chapter Three, but in the first chapter it seemed forced.
Also this book is three chapters!! While it makes sense by the end, I much prefer more chapters!
The Verdict:
Absolutely worth a read!

Bored……. The first third was interesting, if not funny, and I enjoyed the idea of being behind a fictional SNL show. However, the second half is just emails and the 3rd is slow and pointless. I ended up putting the speed at 1.75 just so I could get through it.

I laughed out loud A LOT reading this. I was also super frustrated with the main character at times. Also I totally blew through this in no time.
