End Scene

This book is as taboo (twincest) as they come so be warned before starting this!

Two brothers, one gay, one straight. Atticus came out to his parents as gay which resolved in him being thrown out on the street. Struggling to make ends meet, he needs to find something that will pay big or he won’t be able to finish his last year of school. As he grows more desperate so do his searches for jobs that bring in piles of cash. Until he stumbles on an add, looking for twins who would be willing to take intimate photos and clips for an upcoming book series. He applies and then needs to convince Asher to do this with him. And when they do this, is it crossing lines they can never come back from, do the feelings end when the scene does?

We get the story written from Atticus’ POV and I love his inner dialogue. The desperation of the situation seeps through his mind but I loved how he still had humor and how he could ramble on when he is nervous. His mind is a wild place!

Asher is the level headed of the two and he takes some time to get right with this project. One: he is very straight and two: this is a line you should never cross with your brother. But in the end he would do anything for Atticus, even this. He is the voice of reason and his entire personality radiates that.

To make sure they can pull this off they come up with the plan to practice. And oh my… practice they do. Building from awkward to something they both don’t really understand.

I love a good taboo story and this one gave me everything I wanted. Just make it to chapter 10

9/10, 💥💥💥
Woo boy, this was a hot time 🥵 I'm getting into my brothers era, methinks, and this is the first twins (identical at that) novel I've read. I enjoyed that, in this story, not only do we have a very much gay and very much straight twin, but there's absolutely no kind of feelings between them at all, it is very much a normal kind of relationship between them, except for the fact that they're really close, which could be attributed to their distant parents and them being twins. I enjoyed the fun twin 'voodoo' moments which, to me at least, seem less like actual pseudoscientific 'telepathy' and just the fact they know each other so well. The set-up for this story was definitely interesting, and I must say it took me a little while to get into it as Atticus was just completely insufferable at first (even if it was in a kind of endearing way). I'm glad he humbled up after life knocked him down a few notches, but in what I think is my only critique of this book, I wish we had more on-page character development with him - he definitely is a much more aware person by the end, but it was definitely told that he developed, and you see him having grown, but we don't really watch him grow or get challenged. I would have loved to see more of that.

Now, the relationship between these two. This story wasn't exactly the most smutty thing I've read, not by a long shot, but it felt like one of the most steamy reads I've ever read, and I think it is because the sexual tension and chemistry between these two is so dang high. Like, the tension drips off the pages, and only getting Atticus' POV means that we don't exactly know where Asher is at mentally, and it makes their interactions that much more tense and loaded with uncertainty. I loved that Asher fell hard and fast, it was such a fun little thing to happen, and I appreciated that Atticus fell just as hard once Asher confessed and Atticus let himself feel his feelings finally. Their whole job from that moment went so easily for them, and it got really hot again. I also found the Jay and Dean subplot interesting, and I enjoyed that it happened the way it did - it was definitely an interesting element to the twins' rather taboo scenario, and I'm glad that Atticus refrained from anything alone with Jay. I would totally read a novella of Jay and Dean doing their nasty stuff together, that would be crazy spicy too.

I really ended up loving this story and these two brothers - they were really endearing, but we also got to see their crazy sibling energy at many times too, as well as a lot of comfort and, of course, spicy times. It is definitely an interesting story, and I am definitely going to be re-reading quite a few of these scenes 🧐

This book Atticus is DISGUSTING.

- Asher kept, repeatedly and EXPRESSIVELY stated NO. that he DIDN'T WANT TO DO THIS. He WASN'T COMFORTABLE. He DIDN'T LIKE IT.

and what did that other twin: Atticus did? He LAUGHED AT HIM, PUSHED HIM TO DO IT because OF COURSE they're bothers so that means Asher can't say no right? Or else he'd be an asshole.

Not only that, Atticus PRESSURED, DUBIOUSLY MANIPULATED Asher into doing that photoshoot which ASHER had said: I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS.

next,

This. Just this right here. Fucking gross and disgusting:

“Jay’s hand landed on my thigh under the table as he leaned in close enough to whisper in my ear. “So fucking hot. You two are on fire.”
Asher’s hand landed on my other thigh, his grip unyielding. Then it was his voice in my other ear. “I’m fucking hard right now. I can’t look at these and not think of this afternoon.”
I almost laughed at the dual attention.”

and this

“Dean: Didn’t you say one was straight?
Jay: Yup. I’m guessing an ass virgin.
Dean: Mmm … I want to watch his first time taking a dick if we’re paying 20k
“Wait. What? H-hold on—” Asher reached out to grab Jay’s phone when he retracted it.”

“Because Asher and I hadn’t talked about it, I messaged Jay back: We’ll keep you posted”

BUT YOU FUCKING DID!!!!! HE SAID NO!!!!!!!!!

I swear to God, I have read so much shit in my life and I've fucking read non consensual consent, BUT 70% INTO THIS BOOK ANS YOU'RE STILL PULLING THIS SHIT????????

When Asher told Atticus he was uncomfortable and didn't like what was happening, this was how Atticus responded.

“Atti, I don’t feel so well.”
“That’s because you’re a nervous virgin, baby. How’s it feel?”
--
WHAT THE FUCK?????!!!!!!!!!!!??????!!!!!?????!!!

The only reason Asher pulled through WAS FOR ATTICUS, BECAUSE ATTICUS NEEDED IT, BECAUSE HE WAS HIS BROTHER. IT WAS ALL FOR HIM.

What shit pieces of fucking vomit does someone need to be TO VIOLATE THAT????!!!

Before someone goes on a tangent, I DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE TROPE OF THIS BOOK. I've read incest many many times before. I've read darker and sicker and far more twisted book. This is one of the only books that rubbed me off so royally the wrong way. It was Atticus disgusting characters that continued to repulse the taste of this book the longer I read.

Many of my friends love and adore this book, and I fucking love them for enjoying every second of this book because all I felt was pulling my hair roots because I was appalled at how Atticus was treated Asher.

Sincerely, to this book,
EAT SHIT AND CHOKE ON IT!

I needed to suspend my belief to enjoy this. Now, I don't really know a lot about the book marketing business, but I'm gonna guess publishers don't make twins do sexy things to each other for cover art. But alas, that is the story here, so as I said, I suspended my belief and made peace with it.

Also, what a ginourmous asshole the photographer, Lewis, was! Having no patience with their 'lack of chemistry' and not being understanding of why the twins might be feeling a little awkward at first.

Atticus is a fun character full of rambling and snark, and I like the brotherly affection and banter the twins have even as their relationship develops.

There isn't a lot of substance to the story, it falls on the erotica side of things, and personally I prefer more plot than that, which is why I'm not rating it higher.

what can i say…. it was pretty hot 🤷‍♀️

Reading this was so much fun and totally took me by surprise at how enjoyable of a read it was! The story had a good balance to it and was able to hold that throughout the whole book. The pacing, the characters, and the plot all worked perfectly together to form a well-written taboo romance.

End Scene is told through Atticus's pov and, while I prefer dual povs in romance, I actually liked that we only got Atticus's because you're able to read between the lines to know how Asher is feeling throughout the book. Atticus is somewhat unreliable with his naivety and obliviousness in this strange situation the twin's find themselves in. It made Asher's actions all the more exciting when we as a reader knew exactly what was going on in his head, but Atticus is absolutely clueless. Asher's possessiveness towards his brother was

Nicky James is the actual QUEEN of taboo.

Wow. This one wasn’t as angsty compared to her other works, but still a great slow burn filled with great character development and charming banter and wit.

At first, I wasn’t a fan of Atticus, because he was such a whiny little shit and too sarcastic for me. But slowly, he grew on me, and I slowly fell in love with these two characters. For some reason, I binged read this in like one night but then I didn’t want to finish it so there’s this weird 1 and a half month gap between me reading 80% of it and me finishing the last 20%. And I finally finished it after putting it in the back burner for so long.

*also, this story isn’t really a touch of taboo, it’s more of a whole fistful of taboo but I loved it nonetheless*

Nicky James at her Taboo best...
