This book had a format that was almost like mini essays connected together, and the ending was a little abrupt. I did find it enjoyable though.

Portrait of a Marriage.

I haven't read any of this series before, but I didn't feel I needed to, in order to understand the characters.

While this could easily follow on from other episodes in the life of Lucy Barton, it is also stand-alone as a look at Lucy's former marriage, former husband, former lives.

It felt very honest, I'm decades younger than Lucy and William, but truths about relationships still held even with those gaps. I may not come from a background similar to Lucy's but listening to her speak about failing marriages and life experiences growing up, it did hold me and hit home at times.

Quite short but I'm glad I listened.

2.5, uzela je sa velikim očekivanjem, međutim njje me vodila u potpunosti priča, Vilijam mi je previše nekako detinjast, pasivan, zvezdice dobija Lusi i njen razvoj.

This was well-written but I just kind of felt meh about it. Maybe it's the timing for me.

Oh William! Oh Lucy! Oh Elizabeth!

I loved this book. I loved this series of books. I loved the characters and the story that each of them have to tell. There is a bit of a sadness wrapped around these stories. It is so human, it is so normal, it is so natural.

When you sit down with an Elizabeth Strout book, it is like sitting down with a friend over coffee. You just feel comfortable enough to just sit and chat about anything and everything.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group for this advanced readers copy. This book is scheduled to release on October 19, 2021.

Almost 100% tell, don't show. It works... until it doesn't. It became tedious. I guess it's literary fiction, so it's character-based rather than plot-based, but it's not quite deep enough to make it work. This one just wasn't for me.
