I’m really glad that this book - with all of its joyfully queer shenanigans and antics - exists, but it wasn’t really for me. I didn’t vibe at all with Chloe, so being in her POV was exhausting. I wanted to spend way more time with Rory + Smith, Georgia + Summer, Benjy, Ash, Ace… I was interested in basically everyone but our protagonists. Glad to have read it, but not my fave.

Likely a little too YA for me. And I liked the side characters more then the main character and her love interest.
A lot of this could have been solved early by talking to an adult and having conversations.

Ch 6
On the second floor she finds Dickson’s room. Which is a study in the worst of teenage boyhood. Chloe likes Boys and their defined jawline and crooked smiles. But the pile of sweaty laundry in the corner makes her want to quit them all together.

Ch 12
I like the part about the two guys finally talking about what they liked and being afraid of how they would be perceived. But the overall concept just seems weird. If she’s truly missing how is there no police involved?

Okay, this part is annoying. It’s been like two weeks ANYONE could have bought that book talk about a risk

Chapter 19
Can’t blame you. All those girls walking around with Jesus above their boobs. Seems like entrapment to me.

Ch 20
AWWW he saved them from having to do the dissection

who would have thought the turducken would have been foreshadowing.

Honestly I didn’t really care to much about the two MCs but the book itself was good and I enjoyed the plot and all the side characters.

This is a 3.5. Let me explain.

I was not extremely interested in the originally premise. The Paper Towns mixed with Gone Girl did not seem that riveting to me, but I love McQuiston's writing enough to pick this book up anyway.

The beginning was solid. Then I slowly grew bored with the endless notes Shara left behind. Then the story completely shifted gears after Shara returned, and I grew more interested with the plot at that point. I just felt as if this one moved in so many different directions. This is not necessarily a critique, but I would have preferred a more... concise and (at least in this case) shorter story.

I liked the characters more than the plot. Smith and Rory? The childhood best friends to enemies to lovers pipeline>>

I also thought this book brought so much representation to what exactly being a older teen feels like. School, friends, relationships, figuring yourself out, deciding who you want to be. I loved that Chloe and Shara were (in many instances) unlikable. They were realistic and messy!

Again, I loved the characters, but the first two thirds of the book was oddly paced.

i think if i read this like 4 years ago i would’ve liked it a lot more
maybe im outgrowing ya romance
easy to read, but pretty heavy handed in its themes and messaging

The whole book is so well written. V to knjigo sk sla w 0 expectations sploh nisk vedla o cem se gre. I love all the side characters. I love that Smith and Rory end up together, I love Smith experiencing w his nonbinary identity. The whole Shara goose chase was well written and excexuted. The tension was there and I love the singnificatnce of religion innWillowgrove and Sharas life. Shara trying to win her parents iver while tryinf to getbw Chloe backfiring into her dad being outed as illegaly fucking w people grades. Chloes relationship w her moms is goldm I love Shara and Chloe so kuch theyre such a cute couple and I love their story.

Believable? No. But still SO GOOD ANYWAY? Yes.
