Wouldn't have picked up except that Red White and Royal Blue was the best book I read in 2023. I think this was just a little bit too YA and too Gone Girl for me to really enjoy. Dragged myself through until the last 50 pages, which I adored.

we love gay people !!!

Casey really wrote a book that shows the ins and outs of identity and sexuality. It isn’t my favorite book from the author but it is very well written and a great book for 2022. The characters each have their own problems and are layered together to create a pretty perfect LGBTQ representation. Shara is a character that also has the styles of being a metaphor for the way that Chloe looks at the world. I love the twist on the bad boy next door, Rory, and the dumb jock, Smith. This has been very much a good book. I did notice that they misspelled Stephen Sondheim’s first name which I hope is something that is fixed from the ARC.

It was a quick, fun little read but I felt like there were parts where they started talking about things that weren’t even mentioned in the book and I found it hard to get into the book in the beginning. It was a little bit of a let down compared to red, white and royal blue which is like one of my favourite books ever.

Love the mystery and banter. Really enjoyed the audio book. I found that I liked the lives of the secondary characters like Rory & Smith more than the main protagonist. I wasn’t too much a fan of the obsession. Maybe too many pop culture references.  🫶🏻 Medium read with a side of fries!

I Kissed Shara Wheeler is such a joyful, chaotic ride. Casey McQuiston nails that mix of sharp humour, teen angst, and heartfelt vulnerability. Chloe’s voice is bold and relatable, and the cast of characters feels refreshingly real. The mystery is just enough to keep things moving, but the heart of the story is really about identity, community, and the complicated, beautiful mess of figuring yourself out. It's bright, queer, and full of life.
