not a horrible book but definitely a predictable plot. the storyline had some twists and turns and some nice plot twists but most of them i could see coming and it was a big letdown. the characters were not really fleshed out with unique personalities and most of them kinda just blended into one. i did enjoy most of the storyline and how the book concluded but i would have liked the book to be a bit more fast paced because i did find myself bored at some parts. i loved reading the backstory of Victoria and found her journal chapters to be very entertaining. they were my favourite parts of the book. i guessed the killer from a good 30% into the book but i really enjoyed how manipulative the characters ended up being. Victoria was such an interesting character and i loved her role in the book. one of my favourite characters would have to be Mack and i thought the book was entertaining in its own way. so a nice murder mystery thriller book to read.

THE FACT THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER TWIST IN THE EPILOGUE HELLO?!?!?!?!??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I realized while reading this book that Frieda McFadden is like the Nicholas Sparks of thrillers. I realize that is going to sound insulting to many, but I do not say that to ridicule. Is the writing amazing? No. The dialogue and narration is often extremely fucking cringey. Is it still a good story that I'm gonna eat up every time? Yes. And honestly, it's nice having an author whose books I can depend to be a fun ride. And also, I'm just saying, that I have seen authors improve over time, and maybe Frieda's dialogue and dumbass FMCs will get better. If not? Oh well. I enjoy these well enough. They are nice beach read thrillers that I'm gonna race through and enjoy regardless.

Despite the MANY similarities to The Housemaid, this did turn out to be a fun unique story. It was really interesting to see Sylvie's own story unfold. I was expecting her to only be a plot device, but was pleasantly surprised to actually get a really great backstory and resolution to the conflict. I was cheering for Sylvie at the end despite how cheesy that end scene was.

Spoiler I would just like the record to show that I never for a second believed that asshole husband Adam.

this might be my favorite Freida book i’ve read so far!

Very similar plot/theme as Verity but different. Would’ve given five stars if I didn’t cringe at times at the female character’s lack of common sense
