This was a good thriller that kept me engaged. Not sure how I felt about the super short chapters but other than that I enjoyed the story.
Des was so naive in the beginning! It sounded way too good to be true and they fell for it. At least Cam was suspicious, Des had rose colored glasses on. Like why wasn’t she weirded out that they had a no work from home policy?? That would’ve been a big red flag for me. I felt like once Mrs. Carver kept showing up that would've been it for me.
Something this book did that I hate when books do is name drop known brands. Like instead of just saying streaming service, they’ll specifically name ‘Netflix’ or instead of the author just coming up with a coffee shop name, he kept using Starbucks which is my pet peeve in books.
Cam should’ve been suspicious when that man asked him to drop off a package. All money ain’t good money. He was also so easily tempted by Lola in my opinion. Like damn stand up?? Both characters were frustratingly naive and just kept overlooking red flags.
Someone made it a point to say they wish there was more drama and I agree. I liked the book but it was like it was missing something? The plot twist was good but not jaw dropping in the slightest. It is definitely a slow burn thriller.
I only finished the book because I was curious to find out the identity of the landlord. The red flags were all over the place but the characters were apparently too dense and naive to read the room.

If it’s too good to be true, then it probably is. Cam and Des definitely ignored all of the red flags when signing the lease to their new place. You began to feel sorry for them and become infuriated with them at the same time, as this couple simply didn’t make the best decisions! Ms Carver made me scream loudly, and I kept yelling at Brandon to unalive her (as if he could hear me). This story was entertaining, held my attention and was overall well written. This was my 4th book by Brandon Massey, I will eventually work my way through his entire catalogue.
