I quite enjoyed this one, although I did guess what eventually happened, but I did not guess all the other twists and details. I really like seeing Orville and Vera relationship further develop and I would say that they're really cute. Bradley Marvel is rather interesting, good to know that Vera got someone following around her but thanks to him really. I wonder if we get to see more of the Highland's police chief Ambler and more about Big Eddie, I'm really interested to know more about them. Also I really love the B&B owners in both Shady Hollow and Highland, they sound so nice and they seem like amazing people. I love that we get to see more of Professor Heidegger and Lenore, I honestly really like their characters and they always add more to the story. I could see Mr Fallow being more involved in the next books and I quite like his character. Poor Dorothy, she must have really loved her husband :(

I really love Juneau Black’s quaint shady hollow  mystery series.  So far my favorite book in the series has been cold clay, I did enjoy Mirror Lake with its lovable reoccurring characters and change of scene and pace, I gave this 4.5 stars because this book didn’t hold my interest as much as cold clay did, but with that said this was again a wonderful addition to the shady hallow mystery series, and I am so excited to read the next book in the series twilight falls.

Like every other Shady Hollow myster I have read, this one sucks you in immediately. Vera has enough on her plate with the upcoming police election and then when a rat claims that her husband is dead when he is standing right in front of her?! Shocking. I love these types of mysteries, ones where you really know something is up and something bad happened but pieces need to be pieced.

It really reminded me of that scene in "Brother Bear" where that old bear is like "Sometimes I can still hear his voice. -Quit telling people I'm dead!" only there is foul play and a potential murder!

Readers get another look into the intricacies of this not-so-sleepy small town and all of its residents. The aftermath of the first book has really changed the future of all of the repeating characters' lives. I love the slow world-building. Also we got to go to another town in this book!!! Even more world-building :)

The mystery was fun and intriguing - it really had me guessing! I know this is a mystery book, but I felt that the romance between Vera and Orville is a bit strained, they way they talk to each other could have been better addressed imo 😅 but I read this for cozy mystery and romance on the side so I still loved this book 💕

Even though this book was as predictable (for me) as book 2 in the series, I enjoyed it even more! The pacing was really consistent throughout the book and I enjoyed both the fall vibes and the continuation of relationships between the characters. I finished the audiobook in less than 24 hours because it was the perfect palette cleanser book.
