Everything about this felt specifically designed for me! Opposites attract à la artist, fate-believing fmc and a scientist, anti-fate mmc. Rooney and Jack fall for each other in a completely ridiculous, chance encounter filled night. It's the kind of insta-love that makes me believe it's really possible.
Fate is the (red) string that ties the whole thing together. Rooney and Jack are opposites, but LKJ utilizes that fact to force Rooney and Jack to communicate! It's just delightful! Also, can we talk about how perfectly the slowburn was done in RST because I was giggling, kicking my feet at the smallest interactions.
A phenomenal follow up to Lunar Love! Perfect for anyone looking for a low/no heat romance with great Asian American representation and discussions on fate.

Cute book. No spice, but it made sense. I was glad to see mixed race representation.

Red String Theory was such a sweet and loving story that I all wanted to do was give it a big ol’ hug. I especially loved the cultural aspects and the drool-worthy food descriptions. Rooney and Jack were equally loveable and their witty banter was so enjoyable to hear. They balanced each other between Rooney’s belief of fate and Jack’s logical mind. Also, having a part of the story take place at NASA was so cool! I loved the descriptions and the background of Rooney’s art in tandem with Jack’s intelligent explanations for the non-astronauts about Mars made me want to revisit the art museum and also the science centre and have more of an appreciation for what I’m seeing and experiencing. Also, the narrators were amazing and did an awesome job.

Red String Theory was such a lovely follow up from Lauren Kung Jessen’s debut novel Lunar Love. It beautifully combined mixed-race character(s), second chance/star crossed lovers, chances & “fate,” clean romance, STEM + art, and more. The book was clearly well researched as there was a lot of interesting information about NASA and space. I really appreciated learning about all of the Chinese traditions. There was so much great banter between the characters too. One of my absolute favorite parts was Sprinkles the cat!
Fans of Lunar Love will appreciate the Bennett and Olivia cameo! Thank you so much to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
