Jo’s character was pretty terrible. She wanted to show Gabe he should “get over it and move on” from his depression. She shaved his beard when he didn’t want to. He said he wasn’t ready to sleep with her and she still got naked and forced him to get naked with her and slept with him anyways. She disregarded his agoraphobia and made him go to town with her. The list really goes on and on, she’s really a terrible “friend”!

Absolutely adored this book. An emotional ride, delving into the perfect imperfections of being human. I loved how the author weaved the imagery of the nesting grounds and the expansive forest around them. A truly enjoyable read.

I love a heartwarming cheesy mystery with a small cast.

I feel there's a bit of over-explaining through dialogue, and a few repetitive scenes, but it isn't too distracting.

I've had this book on my kindle for years. It seemed right up my alley, but I had never sat down to read it. Then I picked it up this month and it was the perfect time. There's a bit of mystery, a bit of relationship building, and a whole lot of being outside. I was once a biological technician doing this kind of work, so it was fun to see that on the page, too. There were some plot points that were a little odd, like the relationships with the university students and faculy. It wasn't bad, but I'm not sure it was needed.

Questions I would like to talk to someone about are:
1. The author treats one of the characters mental illness in a way that makes it appear relatively easy to overcome. Do you think that is realistic?
2. What would you do if you were in the same situation with a small child claiming to be an alien and who obviously is afraid to go home?

I'm gradually adding books I've read in 2021 to give a true reflection of the books I've read since keeping records.  This was the first book I read in 2021, and is what kick started my reading journey having put reading on the back burner whilst bringing up the children, previously being an avid reader.  I enjoyed this book. Joanna Teale is recovering from breast cancer and she retreats to graduate researching in a cabin in the woods.  A mysterious child called Ursa shows up and she reluctantly let's her stay. She does call the police but she rubs away, returning when the police leave. A neighbour assists with the 3 of them forming a bond. A really lovely book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book- the characters were easy to love and I was totally immersed in the plot. While I love the ending, I do feel there were some unanswered questions regarding main points of the plot. Otherwise, it would be an easy 5 star rating!
