I think the author missed the portion of writing class where they stress the importance of "show, don't tell." But this was still a one night binge book for me.

While *very much* like "how ever many shades of that one color" I liked this book a lot better.
Still a weirdly controlling dude but the circumstances are better. Erica isn't as naive to the world and can stand on her own if she wanted to.

Still had probably too many moments of "whoa this is hilariously like something else I've read".

First, I want to admit that I don’t remember where I got the recommendation for this book. But I do know it was from an email or newsletter from one of the authors I love, so I took the plunge with this author. I swear, I’m trying to get better about noting where I get my recommendations from.

I really enjoyed this book and it’s very well written. But, I hate to say this, I felt that the author was extremely influenced by the Fifty Shades books. Wait, wait, wait! Don’t leave this review yet. Hear me out. Please read this whole paragraph before making any decisions on this book or whether or not you want to read my whole review. I absolutely hate when there is one book that does great and everything even remotely similar gets likened to that one book, like it’s the one and only. (If you liked X you’ll love Y) More times than not if I liked X a lot I find these Y “recommendations” not even in the same zip code. But I read a lot of erotic romance and this is truly the only time I can remember feeling a story was influenced by those books. That being said, I found this story so much better written. If you look at my reviews of the Fifty Shades books on Goodreads you’ll see I rated them pretty high. I’m sure if I went back for a re-read I would be changing those ratings. Where I enjoyed the storyline immensely, I can’t say the author is a very good writer. Whereas the author of this book, Meredith Wild, seems to be a stellar writer from what I’ve read so far. (After all, I’ve only read one book so far!)

Blake is such a romantic hero, even when he’s being a bit of a misogynistic jerk. Erica’s need to pull away often left me frustrated, but I understood her motivations. Plus, what woman can’t understand the need to prove to herself she can stand on her own two feet. When Erica and Blake are on they are on. They work so well together. But when they’re butting heads things seem to fall apart.

Although I mentioned Fifty Shades, this is a sweeter story. I think I know where the story is going when it comes to the sexual appetites of Blake, but he is slowly introducing those appetites to Erica instead of demanding she go all in right away. Is this realistic? I don’t know…I don’t live that lifestyle. But it sure gives me a soft spot for him. Like I said, Blake’s a romantic hero.

So dumb. DNF

Very poorly written Fifty Shades rip-off.

Let me start by saying Hardwired is a nice book. It is easy to read, and just the kind of story I like to fill the void between two world-intense books. But, apart from that, I felt like it was lacking... well, mostly everything.

Let's cover the plot first.

Blake is a really hot billionaire with a hacker past, that currently invests in other people's businesses. He is pseudo-dominant and is not afraid to go after what he wants when he wants it, which is cool. Although some of the times he just passes through as arrogant and a jackass.

Erica, on the other hand, is supposedly our heroine. Oh, dear. She just graduated from Harvard and founded her online business with two classmates, and now is trying to get financed. And, oh, surprise, she ends up in one of Blake's company's business proposal rounds. Shocking, I know.

She has some past traumas, and she tries to move on from them as if nothing had happened, which I admire, but her personality is sooo confusing I ended up straight annoyed, and wanting to give up on the book, since it is narrated from her POV.

But because I hate myself, and I was really intrigued by Blake's character, I dove into the second book of this series head first, and the rest is history (for another review).

To sum up, if you like this archetypal hot-billionaire-damaged-youger-girl novel, you are in for a five-book treat. But beware of your decisions, they may backfire you if you were searching for somewhat interesting side-characters or anything resembling a description.

3.5 stars.

----------------

I liked this book as an introduction to the series. I do not like Erica’s personality, but I am really intrigued by Blake. I will keep reading the series. Review to come.

3.5 stars

Hmm... I guess the appeal of this one was kind of lost on me.

It was okay. Found the main character Erica a little annoying. After reading a great 5 star read and then reading this. It just fell really short.
