Fun ride but not fabulous-totally far fetched except for political machinations. Life from outer space fabricated to justify government spending on NASA.
I rather enjoyed the story which the book told. I felt I had to finish the book just so I knew how everything ended. The problem was that the writing style was plain and uninteresting considering how long the book was. I sped through the last 100 pages, where the plot picks up immensely, but it was a chore to progress up to that point.
Was not as brilliant as the rest (with Langdon) but, towards the end, I loved it. Sin cera

My first Dan Brown read was The Da Vinci Code, which was followed by Deception Point. Even on my second book, I felt like I was figuring out the Dan Brown Formula.
The Formula: Create one international conspiracy around an earth-shattering secret. Add a male and female lead, each brilliant in their respective fields that will both come in handy for unraveling the aforementioned conspiracy. Mix in a dash of sexual tension and another wacky male friend. And there you have it!
This is not to say that I don't enjoy reading Brown's book. He writes a strong female lead, which is always appreciated. This book just happens to be my least favorite. The life-and-death situations got too extreme too often, and the scientific elements appeal to me less than the religious/historical elements in Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code.
