A Thousand Splendid Suns is a story that reaches deep into your heart and lingers. It’s about two women, Mariam and Laila, whose lives intertwine in the most heartbreaking yet beautiful way. Through their struggles, the book shows the quiet strength of love, friendship, and resilience in the face of suffering. It’s not just a story about war and loss—it’s about the endurance of the human spirit. You don’t just read this book; you feel every moment of it.
Took me by far, the most time it has ever taken me to read a book.

Haunting is the only word that comes to mind here. It's the kind of book that you need a few weeks to process, but that never really leaves you and that you find yourself coming back to decades later.

Unforgettable very powerful story. The Kite Runner is still number 1 for me though.

There is only one, only one skill a woman like you and me needs in life, and they don't teach it in school. Only one skill. And it's this: tahamul. Endure.
This is a gorgeous book. I have a hard time crying at a book but this one managed to pull it off. It's all the more bittersweet to read post 2021, when the Taliban have once again returned to power in Afghanistan. And yet, the brunt of the burden the main characters endure comes not directly from above, but rather from their own homes, trapped in a marriage to a vile, vicious man. In the midst of it all, it still pulls off a beautiful love story between two young sweethearts, as well as a touching depiction of the relationship between mothers and daughters. Easy 5-star rating.
